What to see around Finestrat and Benidorm

Villa Horizonte sits on the hills of Finestrat, between the Puig Campana mountain and the beaches of Benidorm. From here almost everything the Costa Blanca is known for is within a short drive – these are the places our guests ask about most.

Benidorm and its island at dusk, seen from Finestrat

Beaches five to fifteen minutes away

The closest is Cala de Finestrat, a small sandy cove with a promenade and fish restaurants, about five minutes by car. In ten minutes you are on the long beaches of Benidorm: Levante, lively and close to the old town, and Poniente, wider and calmer, with a seafront promenade that is good for an evening walk.

From Benidorm harbour, boats go to Benidorm Island, a small nature reserve with clear water for snorkelling. Further north, the pebble beaches of Altea and the coves of the Serra Gelada are quieter alternatives outside the summer season.

Old towns and viewpoints

Finestrat's old town, ten minutes from the villa, climbs a rock above the coast: colourful houses, a hermitage at the top and one of the best views of Benidorm's skyline. In Benidorm itself, the Balcón del Mediterráneo viewpoint at the end of the old town is the classic place to watch the sunset over the sea.

Altea, about twenty minutes away, is known for its white old town and the blue-domed church on the hill. Villajoyosa, fifteen minutes in the other direction, has a row of brightly painted houses on the seafront and a long chocolate-making tradition, with factory museums you can visit.

Theme parks and days out with children

Terra Mítica, the large theme park, is about five minutes from the villa, and next to it is Terra Natura, a zoo and water park. In Benidorm you will also find Aqualandia, one of the best-known water parks in Spain, and Mundomar, a marine animal park. Several parks open only in the warmer months, so check their opening dates before planning the day.

Nature: mountains and waterfalls

Puig Campana, the 1,406-metre mountain right behind Finestrat, has marked trails for different levels; the full climb to the summit is a demanding day hike, while the circular path around its base is easier. The Serra Gelada natural park between Benidorm and Albir offers cliff paths with sea views and the walk to the Albir lighthouse.

About half an hour inland are the Fuentes del Algar, a series of waterfalls and natural pools near Callosa d'en Sarrià, and Guadalest, a mountain village with a castle above a turquoise reservoir. Both make an easy half-day trip, best early in the day.

Golf, sport and winter sun

Several golf courses are five to ten minutes from the villa, which makes Finestrat a good base for golfing holidays all year round. The mild winters – with many sunny days and comfortable temperatures for walking and cycling – are why many guests come for longer stays between October and April.

Getting around: Alicante-Elche airport is about 35 minutes by car and Valencia about 1 hour 15 minutes. A rental car is the most convenient way to explore the area; the villa has private parking for two cars.
